Emirates Villages – A Model for Sustainable Development

Through the “Emirates Villages” project, the Emirates Council for Rural Development is working to provide the mechanisms and means to enhance the quality of life in all regions of the country. The project aspires to build a model for sustainable development that offers economic and investment opportunities to enhance social stability and well-being of communities in remote areas. This effort relies on leveraging the natural and cultural capital as well as eco-tourism potential of these regions.

The "Emirates Villages" project is based on five development pillars. It aims to achieve a set of goals that revolve around developing innovative and mini-economic forms and patterns in 10 villages within 5 years. The project also focuses on raising community participation and human development through continuous and constructive communication with families and residents. Furthermore, it aims to attract investments, increase participation of the private sector, develop the local arena, and improve the effectiveness of this model. Enhancing cooperation between the federal and local governments as well as the private sector will be key to facilitating development.
