Inspiring Heroes of the UAE to live sustainably

To address its high per capita Ecological Footprints, the UAE became the 3rd country to embark on in-depth research into its footprint.  

We supported this endeavour with the Ecological Footprint Initiative which helped build government capacity and pinpoint activities that were the highest contributors to the UAE’s footprint 

Recognising the role of all sectors, we launched Heroes of the UAE in partnership with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi to engage civil society, schools and corporates to make changes to their daily routines and help lower the country’s footprint.  

14 households, schools, businesses and government offices across the UAE were also given green makeovers to demonstrate how they could reduce their footprints and achieve financial savings through simple changes in technology and behaviour, small upfront investments and education of everyone involved.  

Participating organisations achieved a 16% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.
