The Old Village
Overview
Approximately 150 years ago, the community of Wadi Shis established the Old Village. Having access to an abundant of good quality water supply, they constructed stone houses to live in and began farming. They dug out channels to bring water from the mountain spring, down to the farming areas. After almost 100 years, in 1988, with support from the government of Sharjah, new housing was constructed for the community. Today, the Old Village is used by the people who work daily at the farming areas.
His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, ruler of Sharjah, visited the community of Wadi Shis, occasionally staying in one of the homes which now serves as a mosque. In 1992, he authorized funding for renovations at the Old Village including construction of the stairs and falaj water channels.
