COP27 + the road to COP28
Time to shift to action.
The UN climate change conference, COP27, will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt from 6 to 18 November 2022 and will bring governments together to accelerate global efforts to confront the climate crisis. It is an important meeting because the latest science shows the important emissions gap we collectively have in truly delivering a 1.5C world. We need to urgently scale up efforts to adapt to a warming world and to implement climate solutions across all sectors to halve emissions by 2030 and reach true net zero emissions by 2050. This is vital if we are to limit global warming to 1.5°C and avoid the most devastating impacts of climate change on people and nature.
We are hopeful that, as citizens around the world increasingly demand action on the climate crisis, we can work together to focus on implementation and delivering an immediate response to the climate emergency.
Our role in the UAE - the road to COP28.
Following COP27, the COP Presidency will be handed over to the UAE, with the nation gearing up to host COP28 at Expo City Dubai, from 6-17 November 2023.
UAE leadership have announced their commitment to taking an ambitious, inclusive and solutions-oriented approach to its hosting of COP28. Emirates Nature-WWF is working closely with governments, corporates, local communities, and stakeholders to ensure action is taken now to secure a resilient and safe future for people and nature. Through our projects and engagement work, we are actively advancing dialogue around climate action across sectors and stakeholders, positioning the UAE’s non-state actors at the forefront of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and empowering civil society to contribute to the UAE’s low-carbon journey.
